Call for Submissions

Poigod needs content.

Send creative submissions  for possible publication in December's issue of Poigod.  All mediums capable of publication are encouraged.  Essays, articles, poetry, recipes, erotica, photographs, flash fiction, short stories, lyrical pieces, pornography, comics, schematics, drawings, paintings, non-fiction, and so on, are accepted and appreciated.

Send content files via email to:
 poigodmagazine@gmail.com

or manuscripts via postal service to:
The Editors at Poigod Literary Magazine
110 S. Almon Street Apt. #312
Moscow, Idaho 83843

Pieces submitted must have no mention of your identity (exceptions would be if your identity is an integral part of the piece-- i.e. a personal essay), so that the editors can make a blind decision based on the merit of the piece.

With your piece must be a cover letter to the editors that includes your name, address, and email address.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, November 26th, 2010.  The day after Thanksgiving.

After all submissions have been received and read we will notify contributors of acceptance or rejection.

Everyone is welcome to submit, and more than one piece is also welcome.  Pieces must be no longer than 20 pages.

Again, submission deadline is November 26, 2010.  Poigod will be published in early to mid December.

  1. Who are you? Will this be the first issue? What does Poigod mean? Will the magazine be circulated beyond Latah and Whitman counties? Will it be a printed or an online magazine or both? Is it a one person enterprise? How often will Poigod be published? Were you joking about porn, or will the magazine be unsuited for general circulation and public display? Will you accept submissions from people who do not live in or near Moscow, Idaho and who do not write about that area? Are writers who live in that area or who write about that area preferred? How much do you pay for accepted works? How much will it cost to buy a single issue? To subscribe?

  2. Thank you very much for your comment Mr. Leekley. Great questions.
My name is Emily, and I am a senior at the University of Idaho. I am working on a literary magazine-- Poigod-- with an inclusive ethos. Right now, there is a small team comprised mostly of U of I students that are passionate about presenting artful and thoughtful material. I am a U of I student, but this magazine is not affiliated with nor supported by the school. I began the process of creating the magazine back in August, and in mid-December I will print as well as host online the first issue.
The name Poigod follows the alliteration of the word 'agog'-- which means brimming with enthusiastic excitement. Another aspect of the ethos of the magazine. 'Agog' is not a very beautiful word, so I manipulated the word until I came up with a word that followed its alliteration, but looked and sounded more lovely.
Ideally, the magazine will be circulated beyond the Palouse area, but this may depend on popularity of the magazine. Like I said before, this is the first issue, and logistics are still being worked out, but there is a good chance that there will be a wider circulation. Likely we will distribute to libraries around the Northwest, and hopefully beyond.
This is not a one person enterprise. Like I said, there is currently a small team working on the publication, but the community grows wider daily. Ideally this magazine will be grow to be a club at the U of I-- I am currently writing a constitution for the magazine to become a club. Hopefully this, or something similar will carry on even after I leave the school. Or perhaps I will carry on Poigod wherever I go. Poigod will be published twice yearly. Once in Autumn, and once in the Spring.
The portion of the call for submissions that includes pornography and erotica is not meant as a joke. I wrote another blog post to clarify about this, but the short answer for your question is that we treat all artful media equally. We will publish media that exhibits thought, purpose, art, responsibility, ethics, taste, originality, and creativity, and we reserve the right to deny any piece for any reason. There is a chance that the magazine may be offensive for some, and I regret this. But, it is a sacrifice I am willing to make, as I believe that erotic media is capable of being tasteful and valuable and I want to create a magazine that does not fear that. I assure you that if the magazine does contain material that some may find offensive, the editors will handle it responsibly. We have no interest in offending for offense sake.
We surely accept submissions from people who live anywhere, and do not expect that content pertain to the Moscow area. All writers and artists are welcome to submit and submissions are reviewed without mention of the pieces' creators. All content is welcome as well.
Unfortunately, we are unable to pay contributors for their work. The magazine is the work of volunteers, and funding is very limited. Each accepted contributor will receive two issues of the magazine. Copies will be mailed out after printing. To buy a single issue we ask for a donation of $2 to $5. Printing is expensive, but if someone would like an issue and cannot pay we will still try to get them a copy.

Thanks again for your questions, Mr. Leekley. I hope this answers everything. Please feel free to ask more questions or to email me. poigodmagazine@gmail.com . I hope you will submit.
    Take care,
    Emily from Poigod
