More About the Magazine

Poigod is a literary magazine with an inclusive ethos. Right now, Poigod has a small team that is passionate about presenting artful and thoughtful material.  In mid-December I will print as well as host online the first issue.

The name Poigod follows the alliteration of the word 'agog'--  meaning brimming with enthusiastic excitement. Another aspect of the ethos of the magazine. 'Agog' is not a very beautiful word, so I manipulated the word until I came up with a word that followed its alliteration, but looked and sounded more lovely.
 
The portion of the call for submissions that includes pornography and erotica is not meant as a joke. I wrote another blog post to clarify about this, but the reason for their inclusion is that we treat all artful media equally. We will publish media that exhibits thought, purpose, art, responsibility, ethics, taste, originality, and creativity, and we reserve the right to deny any piece for any reason. There is a chance that the magazine may be offensive for some, and I regret this. But, it is a sacrifice I am willing to make, as I believe that erotic media is capable of being tasteful and valuable and I want to create a magazine that does not fear that. I assure you that if the magazine does contain material that some may find offensive, the editors will handle it responsibly. We have no interest in offending for offense sake.  The overall direction of the magazine is not based on erotic material.


Each accepted contributor will receive two issues of the magazine. Copies will be mailed out after printing. To buy a single issue we ask for a donation of $2 to $5.  Poigod is the work of volunteers, and funding is limited.  Printing is expensive, but if someone would like an issue and cannot pay we will still try to get them a copy.

  1. Will Poigod be published reguarly or irregularly? How much is a one year mailed subscription, and how many issues will that include?

    My guess was that Poigod means Poi God. Poi is a Hawaiian dish made of the root of the taro baked, pounded, moistened, and fermented. It's as good a name as any for a literary magazine, and the creation and evolution of the magazine will give the name its meaning as that magazine.

  2. This is looking really good. I'm excited to see someone wanting to get out more material. Everything I've looked over is wonderful. I did have a question in regards to the publishing rights that you'll be using for the submissions. Just to double check before I submit something of my own.
